b'Oberg Joins Local Coalition Promoting Vets in WorkplaceOberg has recently partnered with the newly formed Pittsburgh Veteran Employer Coalition, funded by the Heinz Foundation and made up of seven other regional employers including Highmark, Giant Eagle, Pitt Ohio and PNC Financial Services, to collectively promote hiring and retention of veteran talent, and minimize underemployment, by sharing data that will better match available positions to their military experiences. The Pittsburgh Veteran Employer Coalition is intended to connect the 50,000 post-9/11 veterans living in the region with corporate sector employment opportunities based on the veterans skills and experience. The coalition will reach out to active-duty personnel who are preparing to exit the military, and foster employment retention and data-based benchmarking. The coalition is the result of a two-year collaboration between the Heinz Endowments and the Institute for Veteran and Military Families at Syracuse University. Data on the number of veterans hired, education level, full-time status, salary range, retention rate, zip codes, and years of service will be collected by the coalition. Heinz Endowments has provided $100,000 to support the initiative. The estimated 50,000 post-9/11 veterans who have chosen the Pittsburgh region as their home - and the 5,200 more that are predicted to join them each year - are a highly trained and experienced pool of talent, Heinz Endowments President Grant Oliphant said in a statement. The Pittsburgh Veteran Employer Coalition will help connect veterans with top employers, ensuring veterans employment potential is fully realized while providing companies with the first-rate employees they need.Food Truck Days return this summer.Last October, local food trucks visited the Sarver and Freeport campuses offering a variety of breakfast and lunch items including gourmet hot dogs, tender ribs, tasty brisket, coffees, teas, smoothies, fruit, and muffins.
