Oberg Receives ESGR Seven Seals Award
At a March 26 ceremony at Pittsburgh's Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, Oberg was presented with the distinguished Seven Seals Award. The award is given at the discretion of the PA Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) chairman to recognize the efforts by a citizen, business or organization whose supportive actions have benefited all of the Reserve Components in a significant manner and demonstrates outstanding support, commitment and and extreme patriotism to the United States military.
While not a final recipient of the organization's Freedom Award, Oberg Industries was among a very select handful of regional companies nominated for the ESGR distinction. Presented annually to only 15 of the country's most supportive employers, The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Oberg is honored to receive such recognition and proudly supports its veteran workers. Oberg has recently partnered with the newly formed Pittsburgh Veteran Employer Coalition, funded by the Heinz Foundation and made up of seven other regional employers including Highmark, Giant Eagle, Pitt Ohio and PNC Financial Services, to collectively promote hiring and retention of veteran talent, and minimize underemployment, by sharing data that will better match available positions to their military experiences. |

Oberg ACE Pre-Apprentice Program Recognized By ARM For Funding
Oberg's ACE (Apprentice and Career Exploration) pre-apprentice program was one of the projects selected for expanding upon its successful PA-based, medium-sized manufacturers existing workforce blueprint to train high school students for potential careers in manufacturing. The curriculum increases student knowledge in STEM-focused courses by demonstrating theory to practical application. Teachers from participating high schools will receive additional training and exposure from Oberg to current/future manufacturing processes.
Since Oberg became a member of the Advanced Robotics For Manufacturing (ARM) consortium last year, Linda Wood, Oberg Training Programs Manager, has been working with the group on standardizing the program and developing the high-school curriculum for 9th through 12th grades. The program includes Career Explorations in Manufacturing (9th), Geometry For Real Life Applications (10th), Mechatronics (10th), and Hands-On Machining Practices at Oberg for students' senior year.
The ARM project expands upon the existing program with an emphasis on robotic applications in manufacturing. Many of the projects are being developed and tested regionally; once proven, they will be available to implement nationwide.
“Our team is very excited about the potential of these projects to catalyze growth in US manufacturing. The consistent message we hear from manufacturers is that our nation’s workforce isn’t adequately skilled to sustain significant economic growth. We believe our selected projects, combined with previously awarded projects, help to address this issue,” stated ARM CEO, Dr. Byron Clayton. |

EV Tooling Try-Out Cell Is Open
Oberg's "Next Generation of Stamping and Tooling" initiative, announced over a year ago, has taken its final step into reality with the opening of Oberg's EV Tooling Try-Out Cell. The cell, which includes the Minster EV-250 press as its centerpiece, is now fully operational with the addition of press accessories including a Vamco feeder system and precision straightener from Machine Concepts. Trials and adjustments have been ongoing since February leading up to successful runs of dies in the press.
To create a defined area that is well suited for customer visits, the Try-Out Cell has been finished off with a dividing wall, signage, a lamination sample display, literature and a video kiosk with footage of the installation and press. Visitors, including Nidec (Japan) and Allegion, have already stopped by to check out the new cell. Efforts are underway this summer to begin promoting Oberg's specialized tooling to the EV/HEV industry leading up to the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo, a trade show bringing together engineers, innovators and manufacturers near Detroit, where Oberg will be exhibiting among other manufacturers.

Oberg Receives Gold Supplier Award
Oberg was recognized by Stolle Brazil with a Gold Supplier award for quality and OTD. We were one of only 4 suppliers out of 54 to be recognized with the award. It is the second year in a row, a very impressive achievement, that Oberg has received this supplier award.
Oberg supplies tooling for Stolle's equipment used by food and beverage companies to produce their metal cans. Shown accepting the award at the Stolle facility last year is Mark Paolillo, Oberg Director of Sales – Tooling & Metal Packaging, and Dave Bonvenuto, CEO. Stolle Machinery was one of the largest exhibitors at the Denver Cannex Fillex show mentioned earlier in this newsletter. |

Reminder: Use Your HSA To Save More
We'd like to remind you, if you haven't already, to take extra advantage of the enhanced benefits Oberg began offering in February with its full coverage of employees' monthly healthcare premiums. Put that extra money to use in an HSA account. The company's healthcare plan allows you to utilize an HSA (Health Savings Account) to save tax-free earnings for use on health-related expenses. The benefit to an HSA is that any withdrawls remain tax-free if they're used on qualified medical expenses, which can include eyewear, orthodontics, laser eye surgery and smoking cessation programs and prescription meds. Click here for a copy of all of the benefits an HSA can offer you. |
